Yang Liu is a California-based paper artist. Her subjects mainly revolve around botanicals, drawing inspiration from Chinese ink painting, food photography and nature. She adds some form of asymmetry as a motif throughout her work to reflect the fact that life has many little imperfections. Her goal is to create beauty that ultimately lies somewhere between reality and dreams.
Her work has been featured online by Craft Industry Alliance's “11 Paper Artists Inspiring Us on Instagram,” Eat Sleep Draw, Creative Boom, Castle in the Air, and SF MOMA Submission Friday. An upcoming 2019 show named “tiny” will feature her smaller works at STUDIO Gallery in San Francisco.
Her collaboration “Botanical Impossibilities” with fellow paper artist Anna Chedid (@floresdaannita) has been featured on VSCO Journal “Paper Flowers.” More recently the two artists drew inspiration from their respective motherlands, combining Brazilian and Chinese flora, to work on a second collaboration named “Motherland Flora.”
